When Sheep Fly

I am a Leicester City fan and therefore unable to say anything positive about any of our neighbouring competitors or risk breaching the laws of blasphemy.

If I wasn't, though, I would have to say that Derby County put up an amazing fight against The ManUre today.

Sure they were outgunned. But they played with real tenacity and spirit.

Nigel Cluff is proving to be a very interesting character. Different in so many ways to his father, but having his own sizeable portion of charisma and flair.

Watch that space I would say.

Derby are on the up.

Football Made The Radio Star

As you know, my lover and I have a radio show on our local radio.

Our show is called "Peeky Blinders" and we chat and talk about football and other stuff and then more football.

We do 3 hours every other Saturday.

Yesterday was one of those Saturdays.

We talked about our two local teams, Cheltenham and Forest Green Rovers. We talked about the Premiership matches on during the afternoon and about the performance of the teams more generally. We talked about Roy Keane and who his successor might be. And we talked about the January transfer window.

And because we are the local radio equivalents of football pundits, we say things like "Paul Jewell's Derby are coming to play Forest Green Rovers in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup" and "Phil Brown's Hull have done it again".

I pop in and out of the recording studio to check the latest scores and read them out, introduced by high pitched beeps from my lover - a creditable simulation of sporting tension.

It's a small first step but you would have to say Georgina is on the road to football fame and fortune.

Freefall

Talk about falling from grace. Can you believe Derby are actually bottom of the championship?

Yes they were clearly out of their depth last season, but you kind of expect a relegated team to be somewhere in the top half of the next division down don't you?

Paul Jewell said afterwards it was the best they had played so far this season too!

I did try to find out if there has ever been a team relegated in two consecutive seasons but I haven't been able to find anything out. Do any of you know better?

I don't really want to seem mean spirited. It's not kind to laugh at someone else's misfortunes, especially not now I appreciate the pain of relegation myself.

Of course if it was Leeds or Bolton I wouldn't hesitate to enjoy the experience. But that's understandable isn't it?

Keep Singing The Blues

It's been a bit glum around here tonight as you can imagine. Both The Royals (the team my lover supports) and The Foxes lost their matches today.

We were trying to think of things to do to cheer each other up. Tricks. Stunts. Playing guitars. Eating cake. Singing.

Then we had an idea.

Do you remember how your mum always used to say "There's always someone worse off than you"?

So we counted our blessings and thought how glad we are tonight that we are not:

  • A Magpie

  • A Hatter

  • A Ram

  • Gary Megson

You see. Your mum was right.

Storm Clouds Forming

Its doom and gloom in the LCFC chat rooms. Fans are starting to talk about relegation becoming a distinct possibility. How shameful!

You might say "You gotta take the ups with the downs kid" - well you might if you were John Wayne or some other dodgy cowboy. But relegation has particular significance for The Foxes because according to Wikipedia, Leicester City Football Club is one of only 10 clubs that have always been in the top two divisions of the football league.

So it's history in the making. Bad history.

The Foxes next game is on Friday. It is what's called "a derby". This means they are playing against a neighbouring team.

In the world of football, you are supposed to hate neighbouring teams more than you hate any others. You are supposed to make up horrible songs about them and sing them whenever you get chance.' Derbies', it seems, contain the passion of football.

The main teams that LCFC play against in 'derbies' are Nottingham Forest and ... er... Derby. This Friday's 'derby' is against ..er... Derby.

And the way The Foxes are playing at the moment the fans are not too confident they are going into the fight fully armed. No wonder passion is high!
