A Bit Of Spice

A funny old footballing day.

With some fairly lack lustre performances I gather.

Fulham unable to beat off Swansea.

Pompey and Man City slogging it out with Portsmouth just managing to pull a couple out of the bag on the back of a determination to show support for the decision to get rid of Adams.

Chelsea in a scoreless draw at half time with lowly Watford.

And Leicester made me hold my breath for a while this afternoon until they equalised against Swindon.

Lets hope the indian takeaway I'm having for my supper has a bit more spice.

Hey Big Spenders

Despite expectations, Manchester City were not the highest spending club in the transfer window.

It was in fact Tottenham, who spent 48 million.

Liverpool, Everton, Fulham, Sunderland,Middlesborough and West Brom spent nothing.

A total of 160 million pounds was spent but if you take out the two big spenders, the rest who spent only paid out an average of just over 5 million each.

Of course Man City would probably have spent more had they not been the subject of the odd high profile rejection.

What does Georgina think of all this?

Well like many girls I like a man who is prepared to splash a bit of cash.

It Ain't Necessarily So

Someone said to me the other day "I wonder if you'll end up like Karren Brady, the woman who broke the football glass ceiling by becoming managing director at Birmingham".

My response now would be "I hope not".

I don't know what to think of all the corruption allegations. Logically, given how much money is in football these days and how much is at stake, you could almost expect there to be some dodgy dealings. The question is how much and who is involved.

If some of the people that have been put in the frame so far turned out to be guilty that would be truly shocking, simply in terms of how high profile so many of them are.

It certainly seems to be a massive operation and investigation that is going on. All goes quiet for ages then a high profile arrest or two then all quiet again.

Of course simply levelling allegations does not make them true.

Just ask the owner of Fulham.

Gadzukes!

Zikes! Holy handballers Batman!

Those daring crusaders fought off the world last night. The Mancunian Devils nibbled french fancies until they were just crumbs. And The Gunners blew those spaghetti-eating soccer boys out of the water.

But hang on. Counfounding Foxes and Oily Ollyisms! We took our eye of the batball for too long. While we were watching those Europeans take a pounding, our arch enemy, The Joker, was making mischief at The Walkers. 1 -0 to Preston.

This is going to take more than a swift getataway in the batmobile.

And as if there isn't enough dastardly duplicity, I have discovered where one of our other enemies is storing his boots.

In the dingy depths of Fulham something smells fishy. The Penguin is back.

Ooohh What A Day

We've got some friends coming over for a meal later.

They are both Everton fans apparently. They don't know it yet but we plan to play the Talk Sport Football Quiz with them. Its on DVD and interactive so we can play as teams.

We bought it in the pound shop a few weeks ago. Each round is introduced by one or two of the Talk Sport presenters. It's as cheesy as they come of course but stretching and funny.

Of course, being Saturday I have had my ears tuned to the football world. After listening to the Talk Sport commentry on the Fulham/United match I excitedly awaited the full time results.

And what a day;

Newcastle lost. It can't be. You are in quick sand Kevin. They can't afford to wait. You are about to sink.

Tottenham - what a kicking! What on earth was going on at St James' Park today?

And I hear there were fights on the pitch at the Chelsea match as Avram Grant and his team put two fingers up to his critics.

Oh and I do fear for Arsenal. A narrow miss and only a draw in any event. I have a feeling the Red Devils are going to get the better of them again this season.

Meantime, both my lover and I are celebrating 1 - 0 wins, although the Royals are still languishing in the relegation zone, whereas we are looking a much healthier 17th.

Our guests will of course have to wait before they find out about their fate against Portsmouth tomorrow.

When You're Smiling........

Five things that stopped me smiling this weekend are:

  1. Leicester City only managed a draw (though not as sad as I would have been if they had lost)

  2. The Foxes are just hovering above the relegation zone (lets hope they don't crash and burn)

  3. The planned loan of Isaiah Osbourne to Leicester has been called off (an important part of Ollie's improvement plan)

  4. Liverpool have been further destabilised by talk of a takeover (not that I am particularly fond of of Liverpool but I believe in managers being given proper support and treated decently)

  5. Reading were beaten 0 - 2 by Manchester United despite a brave fight (you should see my lover's little face bless him)

On the other hand, five things that have made me smile this weekend are:

  1. The Wise/Bassett empire has suffered an undignified knock at the hands of Doncaster (you see there is a god)

  2. Arsenal's 3 goals against Fulham (all three beautifully scored)

  3. Keegan "opening talks" with Shearer about a role at the club (if he ends up with anything I predict some meaningless ambassador role)

  4. Ollie's weekly column (what a wag he is)

  5. Something else - but I think I will keep that one to myself.............
