The chiefs at Liverpool have
admitted that they had talks with Jurgen Klinsmann back in November about the possibility of replacing Benitez. This was at a time when relations between the joint owners and the Liverpool manager were
particularly strained.
It could be that they felt obliged to speak out following allegations in some of today's papers to that effect. If, like me, you are slightly more prone to conspiracy theories you might think the news has been 'leaked' in order to send a clear message to Benitez that he is not irreplaceable.
The statement is cleverly constructed of course. They are delighted to have sorted things out, confident things are back on an even keel etc. But with pressure growing given some of the variable results at Liverpool recently, I would not be surprised if Liverpool have a different manager by the beginning of next season.
How quickly everyone falls out of love in the football world. Everyone except the fans and their teams of course.

Raffa is a person for whom I feel sorry. He appears to be a proud man and an honest artisan who has decided to settle in this country with the wife and kids in order to pursue the excellent profession of Premiership Football Manager.
Raffa knows, of course, he is in a dangerous and demanding position but I just feel for the man.
What do club owners do, however, when shareholders demand success at any price ?
Do they, as in the case of Newcastle, talk to no one and then get rid of their main man with no one to replace him and get into a harry situation...or, sensibly, do they try to smooth the course between one manager and the next ?
One thing's for sure in this respondant's view, capitalism and the "medja" seem to be screwing up footy in many ways and, both Raffa and Sam are casualties of this modern way of doing things. What do other's think ?
